Laser Frenectomy for Infants & Children
A Gentle Solution for Tongue and Lip Ties
At Growing Smiles Pediatric & Adolescent Dentistry, we understand how a tongue-tie (ankyloglossia) or lip-tie can affect your child’s development, from breastfeeding challenges in infancy to speech and dental issues later in life.
We are proud to be the only pediatric dental office within 150 miles to offer the revolutionary Solea Laser, allowing us to perform frenectomies with unparalleled precision, minimal discomfort, and faster healing times.

A frenectomy is a simple procedure used to correct a “tie”—a tight or short band of tissue (frenum) that restricts the movement of the tongue or lips.
- Tongue-Tie: Can prevent the tongue from moving freely, often leading to breastfeeding difficulties or speech delays.
- Lip-Tie: Can make it difficult for an infant to “latch” or cause dental spacing issues and increased risk of decay as your child grows.
The Solea Laser Difference
Traditional frenectomies often required scalpels, sutures, or local anesthesia. At Growing Smiles Pediatric & Adolescent Dentistry, we’ve replaced the “old way” with the Solea Laser.
- Virtually Pain-Free: The laser’s unique wavelength acts as an analgesic, meaning most procedures require no needles or anesthesia.
- No Stitches: The laser cauterizes as it works, resulting in little to no bleeding and no need for sutures.
- Instant Relief: Most infants can breastfeed immediately following the procedure.
- Faster Recovery: Laser treatment promotes quicker tissue regeneration and a lower risk of infection.
Signs Your Child May Need a Frenectomy
If you notice any of the following, a consultation at our East Amherst or Williamsville office may be beneficial:
- Difficulty latching or painful nursing for mom.
- Clicking sounds during feeding or excessive gas.
- Slow weight gain in infants.
- Speech difficulties or “lisping.”
- Inability to stick the tongue out or touch the roof of the mouth.
Post-Procedure Care
Frenectomy procedures have a lasting positive impact on nursing, eating, and speaking. After the procedure, it may take time for your child to adapt to their new range of motion. We work closely with parents to provide stretching exercises and can coordinate follow-ups with lactation consultants or speech therapists to ensure the best possible outcome.
